St.-Idesbald abbey beer : heritage on your lips

Did you know that the Abbey of the Dunes in Koksijde already had a brewery in the 16th century? Pieter Pourbus painted the brewery building on his map of the Abbey of the Dunes. Today, some five centuries later, there is once again a brewery on one of the former domains of the abbey. In a former stable that was completely renovated with respect fort he past. The name ‘Idesbald’ is a nod to one of the most important abbots the abbey of the Dunes has known. You will also recognise the monk from the beer logo in the logo of the museum.

Characteristic beers

The Huyghe family brewery from Melle built up a strong international reputation with various beers. It also turned St. Idesbald into a solid brand with four recognised belgian abbey beers : Blond, Tripel, Rousse and Dubbel. In this new brewery in Koksijde, Huyghe’s master brewers continue to develop new characteristic beers. Together with the owners, they pay a lot of attention to a strong local story in which regional products play a leading role.

Straight to your glass

The brewing plant has a capacity of 1.000 liters (per brew) and consists of a grinding unit, a brewing module, hot water tank and four fermentation tanks. The malt is milled on site. And this can all be seen from the café. The brews flow directly into your glass after a natural brewing process. Cheers !

You can enjoy the beers, a range of other drinks and suitable beer tapas both inside and on the terrace.
