During a visit to the Abbey Museum in Koksijde, your group will travel through time to… the Middle Ages! At the time, the Abbey of the Dunes was one of the ‘big five’ abbeys in the county of Flanders. Its size was immense and the abbey had a great influence on the region. Today, its ruins remain. You will discover the various rooms of the abbey while walking around the abbey site, and will get an insight into what it must have been like for the monks to live there.

In the museum itself, you will mainly see an archaeological collection. Many of the pieces in the museum were excavated on site and will bring you very close to the people who lived there. There are several rooms, each covering a different theme (the Middle Ages, food, games, religion, work, death, building, archaeology…). During your visit, you will not only encounter skeletons, but also… a very large LEGO model of the abbey which will amaze young and old.
